Executive Director for The Food Group of Sheridan

MISSION:

Seeking to alleviate childhood hunger in Sheridan County, WY by providing nourishment
to children.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Executive Director is someone who through a dynamic, nimble and visionary lens leads the
organization in its mission to address food insecurity and strengthen community well-being. The
Executive Director reports to the board of directors and is responsible for strategic leadership,
financial sustainability, board governance, community engagement, advocacy, human resources, and
facilities management. This role requires a proactive leader with a passion for service, strong
fundraising sense, and the ability to foster meaningful partnerships that drive impact.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategic Leadership

● Develop and execute a comprehensive strategic plan that ensures organizational growth,
operational excellence, and long-term sustainability.
● Establish objectives and initiatives aligned with community needs, program expansion, and The
Food Group’s mission.

Financial Leadership & Fundraising

● Secure annual and multi-year grants, drive fundraising campaigns, and oversee financial
sustainability efforts.
● Cultivate relationships with donors, ensuring stewardship through strategic communications and
detailed impact reports.
● Lead large-scale fundraising and community engagement events to enhance financial stability and
visibility.
● Work collaboratively with the Treasurer and financial team to develop and manage the
organizational budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility and alignment with strategic priorities.
Board Governance
● Collaborate with Board of Directors to ensure alignment with the mission and strategic goals.
● Serve as a non-voting member, providing key insights, operational support, and governance
facilitation.
● Prepare and present essential board materials, including agendas, executive summaries, donor
reports, and financial statements.
● Deliver data-driven performance evaluations to support strategic decision-making and fiscal
oversight.

Community Engagement, Outreach, & Volunteer Management

● Build and maintain strategic partnerships with community stakeholders, including businesses,
nonprofits, and faith-based organizations.
● Lead volunteer recruitment, training, and retention, ensuring an engaged network of over 150
active volunteers.
● Represent The Food Group in regional and statewide coalitions, including the Wyoming Hunger
Initiative and Wyoming Food Coalition, working with key leaders to address food insecurity.
Public Speaking & Advocacy
● Serve as the public face of the organization, representing The Food Group at events and
advocating for food security.
● Engage with local leaders, donors, and city officials to raise awareness and foster partnerships.
Human Resources & Team Leadership
● Recruit, develop, and retain staff to support the organization’s mission and objectives.
● Manage HR functions, including performance evaluations, staff development, and leave policies.
● Foster collaborative and positive organizational culture that attracts and retains high-quality talent.
Administrative Oversight
● Oversee donor database management, employee payroll, insurance policies, bookkeeping
(QuickBooks), bill payments, and financial reconciliations.
● Ensure timely preparation of financial and tax documents, including Form 990.
● Manage IT needs and review contracts to ensure compliance with best practices and strategic
goals.

Facilities Oversight & Capital Project Management

● Oversee facility operations and maintenance in collaboration with the Facilities Chair.
● Ensure safety, efficiency, and risk management while maintaining alignment with budgetary
constraints.
● Review and manage insurance policies to optimize coverage.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

● Proven leadership experience in nonprofit management, food security, or a related field.
● Hands-on experience in fundraising, grant acquisition, and financial management.
● Strong strategic planning abilities with a track record of organizational growth and program
development.
● Exceptional relationship-building skills with donors, stakeholders, and community partners.
● Experience in board governance, volunteer management, and community outreach.
● Strong public speaking and advocacy skills to represent the organization effectively.
● Knowledge of HR best practices, administrative oversight, and financial reporting.
● Proficiency in QuickBooks and donor database management is a plus.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Annual starting salary of $70,000 to $85,000 commensurate with experience; insurance stipend of
$1,050 per month; bonuses based on annual performance evaluation; PTO & Paid Holidays.
